Lab Pilot Equipment

NEXGEN™ MICRO MILL

The NEXGEN™ Micro Mill mills and deaerates in one continuous recirculating process, delivering the greatest throughput of any media mill on the market while eliminating air entrapment in the feedstock. Vacuum is maintained directly inside the milling chamber as particle size reduction happens, rather than in a separate deaeration step afterward, producing faster, purer particle size reduction and deagglomeration with no bubbles left behind. The system reaches down to the nano-particle range, with media as small as 0.03 mm, sanitary fittings for fast cleanup, and integrated cooling to hold batch temperature steady from start to finish.

Machine Features

  • Mill and deaerate at once
  • Extract air during active milling
  • Greatest throughput of all media mills on the market
  • Nano-particle size capability
  • Media size as small as .03mm
  • Sanitary fittings for fast and easy cleanup
  • Cooling throughout for batch temperature control

Common Questions About the NEXGEN™ Micro Mill

What makes the NEXGEN™ Micro Mill’s vacuum system different from external deaeration methods?

Conventional processes mill a batch to size first, then transfer it to a separate vacuum chamber or degassing tank to pull out entrained air. The NEXGEN™ Micro Mill maintains vacuum directly inside the milling chamber, extracting air continuously while particle size reduction is still happening, so milling and deaeration occur in the same step instead of two.

What batch sizes and media volumes does the NEXGEN™ Micro Mill support?

The NEXGEN™ Micro Mill (model HNG-MM) runs batch sizes from 1 liter up to 1 gallon and holds a media volume of 49 mL, powered by a 1 HP drive.

What is the smallest media size the NEXGEN™ Micro Mill can run?

Media as small as 0.03 mm (about 30 microns), enabling fine particle size reduction.

Can the NEXGEN™ Micro Mill produce nano-particle size reduction?

Yes. The NEXGEN™ Micro Mill is built for nano-particle size capability, using media down to 0.03 mm to reach that range.

Does the NEXGEN™ Micro Mill include temperature control for the batch?

Yes. Cooling runs throughout the process to keep batch temperature steady during milling.

How does the NEXGEN™ Micro Mill compare to Hockmeyer’s MicroMill and HCP-1/4 Immersion Mill?

All three are part of Hockmeyer’s lab and pilot equipment line, but each fits a different stage of process development. The MicroMill is a versatile disperser and mill built for fast changeovers across a wide range of materials, capable of processing batches from 250 mL to 2 liters. The HCP-1/4 Immersion Mill bridges the gap between lab and production, validating new processes and forecasting full-scale performance for batches ranging from 1 to 5 gallons. The NEXGEN™ Micro Mill (HNG-MM) is purpose-built for vacuum milling, combining particle size reduction and deaeration in a single process with the greatest throughput of any media mill on the market, for batches from 1 liter to 1 gallon.
